Do you sometimes feel like your Nails Need to Breathe?
Well the answer on the breathing nails is no, your nails are made of layers of hard keratin and they do not need to breathe!
I have read so many conflicting things about nails needing to breath I thought I would give you my thoughts on the subject. You know just my 2 cents ;0)
Your nails begin to grow from the what is called the nail root and they get what they need from blood
vessels, this is where the nail gets it's nourishment and also what controls the growth of your nails. (This is back behind what most call the cuticle area of your fingers.)

Do you sometimes need to give your
nails a break? Well it depends.
If you notice a change in your nails it
may not hurt to take a break from having products on your nails at least until
you figure out what is going on. But it's not because your nails needs to breathe.
If your products are applied properly
and your nails are not over filed, more than likely it is not the
product causing the issue, it could be something as simple as dehydration. So always keep those nails oiled up! ;)
Our bodies change all the time and so
can our nails.
Here is just an example for you: As some of us get older we
get those wonderful corrugations in our nails. Yup! That would be me and as bad as I hate to admit it the reason for this change in my nails is probably age. Argh! It's not because of any product or that my nails need to breathe.
Through the years I have seen drastic changes come and go in clients
nails that could be for many different reasons and that is up to the doctor to decide not the nail tech.
For instance I have seen changes in the nails after someone has had medications treatments, picking at the product which sometimes can remove layers of the nails and make them thinner or pitted, some people with extra oily nails have lifting issues with certain products and do fine with others. We are all very different and so are our nails.
Remember the nails are always growing off and being replaced with new nails so what your nails are doing today is more than likely a result of something from a few months back. For instance I have seen changes in the nails after someone has had medications treatments, picking at the product which sometimes can remove layers of the nails and make them thinner or pitted, some people with extra oily nails have lifting issues with certain products and do fine with others. I could go on and on but the truth is your nails do not breath and a
change in your nails can be caused by many different things.
I am a Nail Technician and not a Doctor and always recommend that if you have a change in your nails and epically if it's a drastic change then you should always have your doctor take a look first to rule out any health issues.
If your nails are just dry and you feel like you just need or want to take a break then take a break, it's not going to hurt a thing!
Give them three or four months and you will have a totally new nail to reevaluate and decide what you want to do.
