I know I have wrote about The Dirty Nail Salons before, however a little reminder is always good.
You know the old saying you get what you pay for and when looking for a place to have your nails done this is very true.Think about it like this if it is a really cheap manicure then they probably are cutting corners somewhere and that somewhere is more often in the sanitation area.
Here are a couple of examples: Things like reusing old nail files. Think about this for a minute......how many germs could be under your own nails? Just where have your hands been today?
I know you are clean and wash your hands often but how about all the clients before you? Then think about this, if the nail technician has used that file on let's say five people before you. Then they use that same file on you then you could be exposed to all those germs from those five people. Yuck!
And let's take it one step further and say you have a small cut or the file nicks you now you have an open area in your skin that those germs could enter.
That is a recipe for disaster!
Here is something else I have heard about the cheap salons trying to save a buck.
You know the disinfectant jars that they are suppose to put the tools in before they use them on you, you know the stuff that takes care of things like HIV-1, Hepatitis B, C, Staph and so on.
Well the jars should have a State Board approved disinfectant in them and I have heard horror stories about cheap salons using Windex (because it is blue) in them and that is way against State regulations.
I could go on and on but I will stop and let you read the article and be your own judge.
Proper Sanitation is not cheap, so if you are getting a cheap manicure chances are they may not be properly sanitizing.
I am not trying to discourage you from getting your nails done by a professional.
I highly support the industry and there are good ones out there you just need to know what to look for and find a good one.
I do feel it's always good for us to be reminded from time to time and remember the things to look for when trying to find a clean salon to have our nails done.
One more note just because a Salon has higher prices doesn't mean they are clean!
So go over your list and take a Look Around at your next visit!
Anyway Here is the link to the article if you would like to read it:
